Public Art
Calligraphy embodies profound cultural significance in every country. Cultural calligraphy reflects
diversity and multiculturalism. Repetitive words intertwine among pavers, symbolizing unity and harmonious living. The words ‘clay, flour, water’ translated into many languages are an expression of
cultural heritage, industry and domestic life in Merrylands.

Time Tunnel, Design for Parramatta Light Rail, Tramway Station
In this design, an original historical photo, “View of Parramatta Tramway”, has been seamlessly combined with a painting, “View of Elizabeth Farm,” using a typographic time tunnel and incorporating additional textures. This has resulted in the creation of a cohesive visual composition, where the elements of the farm and the tram are brought together on the canvas to achieve a consistent and unified effect.
The design idea, called “Time Tunnel,” has been formulated to delve into the heritage and history of the 1884 tramway and transportation system that brought about significant changes to the settlement patterns of Parramatta. A typographic time tunnel has been created to commemorate the area’s rich heritage and history. Within this tunnel, a single ring has been repetitively incorporated, along with text detailing the journey through time, encompassing “Parramatta Steam Tramway from 1884 to 1943 and the Parramatta Light Rail from 2023…” onwards. The time tunnel has been merged with a view of Elizabeth Farm to produce a unified and coherent design.
Within the design, the historic tram is emerging from the time tunnel. This concept is characterised by the incorporation of historical images, which are fused with contemporary typography to underscore the historical utilisation of public transportation and the area’s heritage. To maintain uniformity between the farm and tram images, the original historical photos have been combined with a typographic time tunnel, and supplementary texture has been applied to refine the overall design. The tram image has undergone colourisation as well. 2022
